Mookane Field Day. This is one of the greatest features of the Botswana Farmers Calendar. Started by twin brothers Thapelo and Thebe Setlalekgosi, the late Phenyo Nthase and the then Minister Mma Tshireletso. In this episode we feature one members of this team Thapelo Setlalekgosi. A Native of Mookane, he has built his reputation as a Simmental Breeder of note. Like a good percentage of Batswana families he grew up where Agriculture was a way of survival. A Boxer in his younger days, he even represented Botswana on the International scene. The sport taught him resilience and gave him the appreciation of what hard work can do. He is a great testament of how farming in the communal areas can still yield good results if one is dedicated. In this episose he talks about everything from stud breeding to managing farm workers. The Mookane area is a fertile area with plenty of underground water. This has enable various agricultural activities in the area that include horticulture. Raised by a single parent himself, he has tremendous respect for women and the role the play and can potentially play in the Agricultural industry. The 2023 Mookane field day will be an exclusive women’s affair, with women taking all role from the key note speaker to the demonstrators on the day.
